Imaging in Urinary Tract Obstruction

چکیده
There are numerous studies available to the urologist in the diagnosis and management of obstruction. These include radiographic studies, such as the plain film (kidney, ureter and bladder – KUB), intravenous pyelography (IVP) and retrograde urography, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), Lasix renogram, magnetic resonance (MR) urogram and the Whitaker test. Selection of a specific test over another depends on the acuity of obstruction and the patient’s age and renal function. Pregnant patients and those with contrast allergy require special provisions. Consideration must also be made for cost of the test, reliability and feasibility of long term follow up by repeated exams. We will explore each imaging ABSTRACT

Anterior Urethral Valve and Diverticulum in a Neonate with Urinary Tract Infection
Introduction:Anterior urethral valve (AUV) is a rare congenital anomaly that can cause obstructive uropathy. AUV can lead to variable urinary tract symptoms, and if left untreated, it can result in end-stage renal disease. AUV should be immediately evaluated and managed. Herein, we present a neonate with AUV and diverticulum, who was treated by cystoscopy. Case report:A 11-day-old boy was ref...

Background: Urinary tract infection 0 in children causes renal scarring and permanent damage to the organ. In this study, we compared the diagnostic value of magnetic resonance urogram for urinary tract anomalies with other conventional imaging methods in children with UTI. Methods: In this case-control study, 190 children (mean age 3.23±3.59 yrs) with UTI were recruited from the Pedi...
متن کاملDiagnostic value of 64-slice spiral computed tomography imaging of the urinary tract during the excretory phase for urinary tract obstruction
The present study aimed to assess the diagnostic value of 64-slice spiral computed tomography (CT) imaging of the urinary tract during the excretory phase for urinary tract obstruction. CT imaging of the urinary tract during the excretory phase was performed in 46 patients that had been diagnosed with urinary tract obstruction by B-mode ultrasound imaging or clinical manifestations. It was demo...
متن کاملFurosemide for the diagnosis of complete or partial ureteropelvic junction obstruction.
Facticious accumulation of the radiopharmaceutical in the urinary draining system as shown by routine renal tests, like technetium- 99m-diethylenetriamine pentacetic acid, technetium-99m-mercaptylacetyltriglycine or technetium-99m-glucoheptonate renograms can be re-evaluated by administering a diuretic, like furosemide (FS) and obtaining post FS dynamic and static images. Urinary tract obstruct...
متن کاملPelvi-ureteric junction obstruction
Pelvi-ureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction is defined as a partial or total blockage to urinary outflow from the renal pelvis into the proximal ureter causing dilatation of the collecting system and potentially progressive renal damage, if left untreated [1]. The PUJ obstruction is the most common site of obstruction in the upper urinary tract of children. Before the advent of ultrasonography, t...

Sonography is a valid paraclinic test for evaluation of urinary tract obstruction it can evaluate urinary tract only from static point of view. We want to evaluate the dynamism of urinary flow by inducing diuresis. In our study 32 patients were selected and diuretic renal scan were perfromed in all of the patients. Diameter of the renal pelvis were measured before and after diuresis.(by real ti...
